Improving our eating habits and physical exercise during lockdown

Maintaining and healthy diet and active lifestyle during lockdown is essential. With our daily routine disrupted; kids at home, juggling home-schooling with working and organising round-the-clock meals and snacks for the whole family – can all have a profound effect on our physical and mental health and impact our choice of foods.

There are many ways in which a healthy diet and exercise play a vital role in maintaining our physical and mental health.

  • It’s essential for our immune system and the ability to fight off common colds and viruses
  • It increases our energy levels because it increases blood flow and heart rate
  • It improves the condition of our skin, helps maintain healthy levels of cholesterol and reduces obesity
  • It releases endorphins, a natural chemical that makes us food and helps to reduce the negative effect of stress and anxiety
  • It reduces mental fatigue and helps us sleep better

Importance of a healthy diet during lockdown

Some people are using food and alcohol as a coping mechanism to help them get through these difficult times. Whether due to loss of appetite, comfort eating, lack of motivation, feelings of boredom, loneliness or low self-esteem, food can become an emotional crux and it’s important to use this time to re-establish healthy eating habits.

Here at Ultimate Fitness, we have introduced Diet and Nutrition Plans to help people identify the foods that give them the right nutrients for a healthy and balanced lifestyle. They are tailored to individual requirements, food tastes and lifestyle. They’re easy to prepare and taste delicious.

Making fitness a habit

During lockdown, our average step count is down by 50% by not commuting to work/around offices/by not leaving our houses. It’s therefore important to establish a daily fitness routine that works around your work and lifestyle.

Despite the gyms being closed, we are determined to keep our members fit and healthy during lockdown. We hold 3 online classes daily (Monday-Saturday) that focus on specific areas of the body, each with a LIVE personal trainer to correct your form, provide motivation and give you personalised feedback.

The first online session is absolutely FREE! Sign-up here.
